White Tiger Kempo Combat
Black Belt Specialty Examination:
If you have received this application, it is because of your skill set, experience and contributions to martial arts. This certification will add to your already impressive martial arts resume. We are hoping you will consider joining our group of White Tiger Kempo Warriors.
History:
White Tiger Kempo Combat focuses on the five ranges of combat, weapons, kicking, punching, trapping / clinch/ grappling. Practitioners who have mastered another discipline with a specific focus, can be recognized as a White Tiger Kempo specialized blackbelt through training and articulation of their discipline as applied to combat. The black belt certificate identifies the specialization in parenthesis in black letters. Once a practitioner masters all five ranges they are awarded the 5th Degree Black Belt which is signified in Gold Letters.
White Tiger Kempo Combat is designed for experienced martial artists to expand their personal systems to combat applications. Its purpose is to expand the network and family tree of practitioners and help grow the principles of Kempo as described by Grand Master Ed Parker the founder of American Kempo.
The White Tiger Kempo system was developed by Grand Master Tom Bryan in Edison NJ in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Grandmaster Bryan emphasized training in multiple ranges and disciplines at a time when many martial artists were arguing over supremacy of their systems. In 1993 when the first UFC was launched and martial artists were amazed at the application of grappling techniques, the students at Tom Bryan’s Martial Arts Academy and Combat Dynamics International Martial Arts Association sat back and questioned why anyone thought this was new.
Expansion and Development:
In 1993 prior to the UFC launching, Sensei Angelo Floiran entered Tom Bryan’s Martial Arts Academy. The similar journey of so many martial artists who didn’t want to be bullied or intimidated at school, pushed Sensei Floiran through those doors. Sensei Floiran immediately fell in love with the training and his life was focused on
Jeet Kune Do.
Sensei Floiran moved from NJ to Texas but never lost contact with Grandmaster Bryan. At one point for Sensei Floiran as a new teenager in a rural Texas community it was just an empty space in a garage and a heavy bag. Since the Internet hadn’t kicked off yet, Sensei Floiran continued his training with telephone calls to Grandmaster Bryan and travelled back to NJ. Sensei Floiran began building a strong foundation through Black Belt Magazine, Karate International and Panther Videos. Once a driver’s license was obtained, Sensei Floiran would find various schools to train and enhance his skills.
Sensei Floiran has never stopped training. He served as a peace officer for over 15 years and has legitimate experience of street combat and engagements policing a border state in a jurisdiction sandwiched between two major metropolitan areas.
While many peace officers will tell tales of combat that end up involving 4 cops piling on a suspect, Sensei Floiran experience involves true combat applications of trained techniques like the kimura, various strikes, chokes and takedowns. Sensei Floiran experience as a peace officer was prior to every patrol officer have a taser or bean bang gun. Hand to hand combat was the only way to arrest someone without shooting them.
Perseverance:
During Sensei Floiran’s career in law enforcement he suffered multiple injuries to his spine. The injuries attacked both the neck and lower back. One day in 2016 Sensei Floiran woke up to his leg feeling frozen. He would later be told he was suffering from loss of muscle function and needed emergency surgery to avoid paralysis. Law Enforcement was now over, but not martial arts.
Sensei Floiran thought back to his studies of Jeet Kune Do and how Bruce Lee had suffered a back injury and that is when he began to focus on studies and writing. Sensei Floiran would do the same. This was the creation of White Tiger Kempo Combat.
Focus:
In Academics, when a student looks to obtain a doctoral degree or Ph.D., there are different methods in the approach. A Ph.D. is based on original research. A Doctorate works to expand on someone else’s research. At the time of this writing, Sensei Floiran is closing in on his academic Ph.D., while he is focused on original research in Academics, he felt it was more appropriate to expand on the White Tiger system. This is where White Tiger Combat was born.
The expansion of White Tiger Kempo is focused on more combat techniques. The expanded application of weapons is the most significant or noticeable expansion from White Tiger Kempo, which added the 5th range of combat to the system. Additionally, the application fo Muay Thai strikes and clinch work to go with expanded training on BJJ, Sambo and Wrestling, works to enhance the combat application of grappling techniques.
Purpose:
The description of White Tiger Kempo Combat on this page is the prelude for testing of chosen practitioners to enter and expand their combat knowledge of martial arts. Many martial arts have been watered downed or are based on a set of rules that limit their combat applications. WTK Combat works to expand the combat application of individuals knowledge.
White Tiger Kempo Combat does not believe a martial artists who has practiced their skills for decades should have to start at the beginning. WTK Combat embraces what a student has obtained and works to add to it. We believe this system of ranking and acknowledgement helps all those involve
